Rules are created automatically when download is started and can be created, modified or deleted manually. Rules are based on random values computed from specific range unique for each BitTorrent tracker. Supports every BitTorrent client that can be connected through HTTP Proxy.

RetroShare, der anonyme Messenger mit Filesharing-Funktion erschien kürzlich in einer neuen Version. Damit kann man gleichzeitig chatten, mailen, in eigenen Foren diskutieren und mit stark reduzierter Abmahngefahr Dateien mit Freunden und Fremden austauschen. Weil das Programm keine zentralen Server benutzt und die Verbindung verschlüsselt abläuft, wird den Anwendern Anonymität gewährleistet.

In herkömmlichen P2P-Netzwerken ist man mit zahlreichen anderen Teilnehmern in aller Welt verbunden. Alle am Datenaustausch beteiligten Computer (Peers) offenbaren beim Up- und Download automatisch ihre IP-Adresse, was Filesharing so gefährlich für Abmahnungen macht. RetroShare beruht hingegen darauf, dass man sich nur mit den Personen verknüpft und mit ihnen urheberrechtlich geschützte Dateien austauscht, die einem persönlich bekannt sind. Der Austausch mit vertrauten Freunden soll das Abmahnrisiko deutlich reduzieren. Die Kontaktliste sollte man dennoch mit Vorsicht pflegen und tatsächlich nur diejenigen Personen als direkte Kontakte zulassen, denen man zu 100% vertrauen kann. Nach der Installation wird ein GPG-Schlüssel erzeugt, den die Freunde untereinander austauschen. Ohne Schlüssel kommt keine Kommunikation zustande. Wenn dies freigeschaltet ist, kann man auch auf die Medien von Freunden von Freunden zugreifen. Die Identität der indirekten Tauschpartner bleibt den Nutzern stets verborgen. Zusätzlich zu den Messenger-Funktionen werden den Teilnehmern auch interne Foren und Gruppenchats angeboten. Daneben kann man sogar gemeinsam an der Erstellung von Dokumenten arbeiten. Die Synchronisierung untereinander übernimmt der Client.

Doch genug zum Funktionsvielfalt. RetroShare verabschiedet sich mittlerweile von seinen Kinderkrankheiten. Im Update zu Version 0.5.1d haben die Programmierer unzählige Bugs beseitigt und dem Client auch ein paar neue Features spendiert. Selbst wenn diese Fassung noch ein wenig von Version 1.0 entfernt ist, so kann man damit ohne größere Zwischenfälle arbeiten. Was man jetzt im Gegensatz zu BitTorrent oder eDonkey benötigt, ist eine größere Anzahl an Personen, die das Programm auch einsetzen und ihrerseits genügend viele MP3s, Filme, Bilder, Hörbücher oder E-Books freigeschaltet haben. Ansonsten kann ohne Partner keinerlei Dateiaustausch stattfinden. Doch das Warten lohnt sich. Dafür das man nach seinen Tauschpartnern erst suchen muss, bleibt einem höchst wahrscheinlich eine Abmahnung erspart. In jedem Fall lohnt es sich, das Programm einem ausführlichen Test zu unterziehen.

Die aktuelle Version kann von hier kostenlos für Windows, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Debian und Gentoo heruntergeladen werden. Daneben stehen auch die Quellcodes öffentlich zur Verfügung.
