Balabolka is a feature-rich program to read text aloud from a variety of file types including DOC, RTF, PDF, ODT, FB2 and HTML. The program uses Microsoft's own Speech API 4 and 5, but lets you fine tune various voice parameters, including rate and pitch, and a substitution list can also be applied to improve the quality of the voice's articulation. The program supports customized font and background color, skins, control reading from the system tray or by the global hotkeys.

Balabolka can also save the synchronized text to external LRC files or in MP3 tags inside the audio files. When the audio file is played with players on a computer or on modern digital audio players, the text will be displayed synchronously (in the same way as lyrics for songs).

Also includes batch conversion tools from of a wide variety of document formats to audio or plain text and a file compare tool, file splitter, and screen magnification window.

...kann inzwischen auch aus dem laufenden System online aktualisiert werden.
Gleiches gilt für den portablen Thunderbird 17.0.7

Das ist schon seit längerer Zeit problemlos zu machen.
Trotzdem empfiehlt sich natürlich jedesmal eine vorherige Sicherheitskopie, nur für den Fall der Fälle.
Könnte ja sein, dass die neue Version mal nicht gefällt oder (gerne mal bei einer .0) doch noch einen bösen Bug hat.
Bei Firefox geht die Sicherheitskopie eindeutig schneller, wenn man vorher den Cache leert.

Hatte ja ein Problem mit 21.0 gepostet, betreffend suspend to disk.
Das hatte mich dazu gebracht, die Version zu überspringen und so lange zu 20 zurückzukehren.
Bei 22.0 scheint das aber gelöst zu sein.

KORREKTUR

Hier tritt nach längerem Tiefschlaf (ca. 1h) des Rechners wieder dasselbe Problem auf wie schon bei Firefox Portable 21.0:

Der portable Firefox 21.0 hat bei mir erhebliche Probleme mit Suspend To Disk verursacht.
Nach dem Aufwachen aus dem Tiefschlaf klemmt die Benutzeroberfläche, z.B. funktionieren neu laden (F5) oder das Öffnen eines Links in einem neuen Fenster und JavaScript-gesteuerte Komponenten einer Webseite dann nicht mehr bzw. extrem verzögert.

Wenn es nicht möglich ist, den Rechner bei etlichen offenen Fenstern oder Tabs schlafen zu schicken und konfliktfrei wieder aufzuwecken, ist das Produkt für mich unbrauchbar.

Bis das hoffentlich einmal gefixt wird, bleibt es hier weiterhin beim Rücksprung zu 20.0.1.
Nochmals bin ich heilfroh, meine Sicherheitskopien aufbewahrt zu haben.

Ob das Problem auch für die nicht-portable Version gilt, kann ich nicht sagen, denn die betreibe ich nicht.

Das dauerhaft zu behalten, ist aber eigentlich mein Haupt-Grund für die Verwendung der portablen Variante, wie von Portable Apps überhaupt.

Ich werde gelegentlich versuchen herauszufinden, ob mein Problem eventuell "nur" an meinem in die Jahre gekommenen Profil für Firefox Portable liegt.

...das ist NICHT der Fall.

Habe testhalber mein Profil aus Firefox Portable 22.0 komplett entfernt, und der Fehler beim Aufwachen aus längerem Tiefschlaf tritt immer noch reproduzierbar auf.
Das gilt sowohl für suspend to disk als auch für suspend to RAM.

Betroffen sind zumindest einige Seiten mit javascript, wie z.B. fritz.box (auf einer aktuellen 7390) und ebay.de
Auf den beiden gelingt dann u.a. das Ausloggen nicht, weil dafür erst javascript den Aufklapper bietet.

Wie schon erwähnt, habe ich auf zwei anderen Rechnern dasselbe erlebt, sodass es eigentlich nicht an der Hardware liegen kann. Es gibt keine einzige Komponente, die bei allen dreien identisch ist. Drei Generationen von Mainboard-Chipsätzen, Prozessoren, Grafikkarten usw. ...  
Gemeinsam ist allerdings, dass jeweils ein aktuelles Win7 Professional x64 SP1 im Spiel ist, samt aller Updates.
Gemeinsame installierte Software gibt es kaum, denn soweit irgend möglich, ist alles portabel eingebaut. 

Für mich ist das ein kritischer Fehler, der mir die Nutzung der betroffenen Versionen 21.0 und 22.0 verbietet.
Ich werde nämlich keinesfalls darauf verzichten, den Energiesparmodus von Windows zu nutzen, wenn mal ein, zwei Stunden nichts anliegt.
