Mit der veröffentlichten Beta-Version von Chrome 16 führen die Entwickler des Internetkonzerns Google ein neues Feature im Zusammenhang mit einer Cloud-Anbindung des Browsers ein.

Von dieser neuen Funktionalität werden in erster Linie die Nutzer profitieren, die den Chrome-Browser an mehreren Rechnern einsetzen. In solchen Situationen stehen bekanntlich keine persönlichen Informationen, zu denen beispielsweise Lesezeichen oder gespeicherte Passwörter gehören, zur Verfügung.

An dieser Tatsache haben die Entwickler von 'Google' bei Chrome in der Version 16 etwas ganz grundsätzlich geändert. Denn schließlich hat man damit eine Synchronisationsmöglichkeit auf den Weg gebracht, die dafür sorgt, dass persönliche Einstellungen auch auf anderen Systemen, bei denen Chrome zum Einsatz kommt, genutzt werden können. Um dieses Feature und die zusätzliche Sicherung der hinterlegten Daten nutzen zu können, muss man sich über "Sign in to Chrome" zunächst anmelden.

Diesbezüglich haben die Google-Entwickler auch an Umgebungen gedacht, in denen der Browser von verschiedenen Personen genutzt wird. In solchen Fällen ist es ohne größere Umstände möglich, die persönlichen Einstellungen zu synchronisieren. Wie auf dem veröffentlichten Screenshot zu sehen, kann man unter solchen Umständen von verschiedenen Nutzerkonten profitieren.

Eine Absicherung der eigenen Dateien bringt Google mit dieser Funktion allerdings nicht auf den Weg. Immerhin können andere Computer-Nutzer die Einstellungen ohne Probleme aufrufen. Der Internetkonzern möchte mit diesem Feature den Anwendern ferner eine Möglichkeit an die Hand geben, um schnell zwischen den Einstellungen wechseln zu können. Für eine Trennung der jeweiligen Konten sollte die Nutzerverwaltung des Betriebssystems verwendet werden.

Note: Other features such as the new theme support we showed off in the Opera 12 alpha will also be held off until Opera 12.00, as it is not yet ready for all three desktop platforms.

We're now working on Opera 11.60 and 12.00 side by side, so you will receive snapshots of both Opera versions from us. up Opera 11.60 is expected to ship in a final version very soon so we hope you will contribute too, by giving us your feedback on this first Tunny snapshot.

Please note that Opera Next should not be downgraded, so install this build separately from your Opera 12.00 installation.

Oh and one final thing, with this build we have once again upgraded Presto (our Core rendering engine) to jump from 2.9.220 to 2.10.228! yes

Known issues

    Opera 11.60 snapshots will not be auto-updated (only 12.00 snapshots).
    Flash Player 11 crashes on Mac. We recommend disabling it or downgrading for the time being.
    This is an Opera build not Opera Next. You should backup your stable profile before upgrade.
