In this build, Core has been upgraded from version 2.7.62 to 2.8.99, which is a pretty big step forward. With this Core upgrade comes the implementation of the Web Open Font Format (WOFF).In addition, a batch of changes to network compatibility has been implemented. The purpose of these changes is to modify our network behaviour so that we are more compatible with other web browsers. These changes include: * Disable Cookie2 by default, with an option to enable it again * Send more compatible Accept* headers * Disable TLS 1.1 and 1.2 by default * Make sure redirects from http to https are labelled secure * Remove the use of master password for client certificates * Added a preference to disable cross-network protectionKnown issues * No HTML5 media playback on Mac * Acid3 reference rendering is broken * Tabs opened by extensions open to the left instead of the right
Opera's Speed Dial was first introduced in an Opera 9.20 snapshot on Feb 28th 2007. The idea came about as we observed that people kept typing the same addresses for a few of their favourite websites again and again. Getting to their top web sites could mean hundreds or thousands of clicks on the keyboard in a single day. The solution we came up with was very simple, but very powerful. And today it's still one of the most loved, and copied, features in Opera. But now it's time to move Speed Dial to the next level. We are going to make Speed Dial more fluid, dynamic and easier to use! What is included in this snapshot is the new flow layout. Please remember this is just a first peek at the changes we are making. Many very smart and innovative solutions are on the way. So stay tuned! Also being introduced in this snapshot is the first stage of improvements to discover more of the features of Opera. Don't worry, there won't be any pop-up bubbles or constant nagging. Instead we are going to have subtle animations and messages to remind you of features you can use in Opera.Let us know if you can find the three features we have added discoverability to. smileKnown issues * Speed Dial synchronization is disabled for now * Address bar not focused when starting Opera with extensions * Tabs opened by extensions open to the left instead of the right * Using the Content Blocker while logged in to Opera Link can cause a crash * Ctrl+Shift+V opening in a new background tab * Slightly older skin * Mouse panning broken on Windows * Drag and drop to Attachments field opens files in Opera on Windows * No HTML5 media playback on Mac * International font settings are not remembered on Mac * Broken Cyrillic local paths on Mac * Cannot copy text from certain applications on 64bit Linux/FreeBSD * KDE File selector can not save to a non-existing file on Linux/FreeBSD * Workspace is incorrect with the X11 toolkit on Linux/FreeBSD
We are still working hard, juggling with implementing, code-reviewing, testing, and rebasing various tasks. As a little treat for the weekend, we want to share some more of what we're working on.Speed Dial animation is a feature which helps you to reorder existing Speed Dial cells, using smooth visual cues.We have also updated the styling of internal pages, and error pages which will be shown when you request an illegal address, or any non-existent domain, etc. A search field will be added to error pages, where the browser will make a search request over the net for suggestions and display them.Lastly, HTML5 video should now work on Mac.Hope you'll find these improvements compelling and useful.Known issues * The error page search only works for English and Russian installations * The error page search is using Yandex as a test, meaning that search results for English installations will also be in Russian * Also see the known issues for the previous snapshot
The dreaded Password Manager Muncher-Monster was defeated in an office on the fifth floor at the Opera Software ASA Headquarters in Oslo, Norway a little under an hour ago. A heroic developer from the Norwegian browser vendor and connected technology innovator Opera Software went head to head against the beast in what can only be described as a heroic battle. The Desktop Quality Assurance of All Things That Can Possibly Go Wrong Department was relieved by this heroic act. The dreaded beast had ravished on the defenseless pioneering spirits that had ventured out to test the latest changes including severe bugs and data loss situations in the Opera desktop product. The QA department notes that the big red warning urging the adventurous to back-up first is there for a good reason. “It’s important to back everything up, always.” says one passwordless QA.Known issues * Readability.com and Instapaper.com bookmarklets not loading (accessing document in iframe appended from external script) * All the previous issues as we haven’t done any more bug fixing in this build
The last two updates you got weren't that exciting, so we wanted to give you some more stuff to play with today. There are many improvements in the speed dial, but the first thing you might notice is that thumbnails are now generated differently.Instead of always generating a thumbnail of the whole page, Opera intelligently tries to find a representative part of the site to display. To do that, it searches through all the images on the page and scores them based on size, position and file name. For example, an image called 'logo.png' in the top left corner will be a good candidate. Opera will make a thumbnail of the surroundings of that image, making it clearer which site is in the thumbnail.Alternatively, it's possible to specify exactly what your page's thumbnail should look like. If your page knows how to handle the 'minimized' view mode, Opera will use that in the speed dial. If you don't need a dynamically changing thumbnail, you can specify an image to use for your page by linking it in the page's <head> like this (the image should be at least 114x114 pixels):Code: [Auswählen]<link rel="image_src" type="image/jpeg" href="thumbnail.jpg">Websites now also have the possibility to tell Opera how often they want their thumbnail updated. The Preview-refresh HTTP header can be used for this purpose. The example below will cause the thumbnail for this website to be refreshed every 10 seconds:Code: [Auswählen]<meta http-equiv="preview-refresh" content="10">Apart from all that goodness Opera now makes it easier for you to install plugins if you don't have them installed on your system. And of course there are all the bug fixes in this snapshot... I could talk about this for days sherlock. Check the full changelog for all the details.

A few of you complained that you found the last snapshot more "crashy" than normal, so we looked at the crashlogs you provided and fixed the two major problems. Please give this build a spin and let us know if the crashes you were experiencing are resolved.Known issues * Fraud protection not working correctly * Check for updates entry is sometimes missing on the Mac * Custom searches are not always preserved after upgrade * Possible clipping of some dialogs under Linux/FreeBSD * Some Speed Dials refresh every second if you upgrade between 11.10-2020 and 11.10-2025: This only affects snapshot users and will not affect those who upgrade from the stable, so will not be fixed.
We decided to throw you a "fastball" and give you another snapshot with some really cool new Core features, including native WebP support (win!) and linear CSS gradients support (epic win!).We also thought we would give you a little more information with regards to an obscure looking 'fix' included a couple of blog posts back mentioning Declarative UI. Declarative UI represents the future of dialogs and other native UI in Opera. Those of you who regularly sniff around in the contents of the Opera packages might know that our dialogs have been generated via a file called dialog.ini, which contains positions, sizes and other properties for many of the UI controls appearing in Opera. This is part of Opera's UI toolkit, Quick, and allows us to make dialogs appear similar across different platforms. However, the format also has its limitations. Because it relies on absolute pixel values for the layout of the controls, it's easy to make mistakes when changing it. In addition, it's hard to adapt to different string sizes for different languages, changes in layout for a specific platform to get closer to platform guidelines, and dialogs with variable contents.Because of these and other reasons that you'll hear more about in the future we're moving towards a new format, written in yaml. The first dialog that you'll see that uses this format is the label properties dialog in Opera Mail (activated by right-clicking a label and selecting properties). If you use Opera Mail, please take a look at this dialog and report any problems you might have. And if you feel like taking a look under the hood, check out the dialogs.yaml file in your Opera package.Known issues * If you have lots of labels, the dialog will appear with a vertical scrollbar to scroll the content * Link not working on the Mac (Link is disabled for Speed Dial on the other platforms)
This snapshot also re-enables synchronization through Opera Link for the new Speed Dial.Let us know about any problems with Speed Dial synchronization, but read the known issues first.Known issues * When reordering Speed Dials, the order may not be remembered on other computers after synchronization * If you have a http proxy setup already you might find your internet connection disabled. To work around disable opera:config#Proxy|UseSOCKS
This build has a further small change to further improve the behavior of plugins on the Mac.
