Wem die Funktionen im Windows Live Messenger noch nicht ausreichen, dem kann mit Messenger Plus! Live  geholfen werden. Die kleine Erweiterung installiert sich automatisch in den Messenger und lässt sich anschließend über die dortige Menüleiste aufrufen. So ermöglicht sie beispielsweise das gleichzeitige Starten mehrerer Messenger, um über verschiedene Adressen mit den persönlichen Kontakten zu kommunizieren. Nachrichten können in jeder beliebigen Farbe und mit zahlreichen Formatierungen geschrieben werden. Unterhaltungen gruppiert Messenger Plus! Live clever in Tabs, damit der Bildschirm nicht durch zahlreiche, verschiedene Fenster zugekleistert wird. Mit der Funktion "Kurztexte" lassen sich häufig genutzte Sätze speichern und über eine Tastenkombination schnell in eine Nachricht einfügen. Zusätzlich erlaubt das Tool unter anderem das Aufzeichnen und Durchsuchen von Verläufen, das Erstellen personalisierter Abwesend- und Beschäftigt-Hinweise sowie das Laden verschiedener Skins für das Programm.

    Updated: Instantbird 1.3 is based Mozilla 16.0.2 which brings great new possibilities for add-on developers and uses libpurple 2.10.4. This is the last Instantbird release supporting Mac OS 10.5 and PPC as these will not be possible to support with Mozilla 17.
    The memory consumed by libpurple and its dependencies is now tracked in about:memory.
