Jitsi ist ein Open Source Messenger für die Systeme Windows, Mac OS X und Linux. Unterstützt SIP, Jabber (also auch Google Talk), ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo und den Facebook Messenger (ist ja auch XMPP). Features? Gruppen-Chats, Audio, Video-Chats, Desktop-Sharing und vieles mehr.

MegaIRC is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Client. It has some features that cannot be found in other IRC clients. It can work in one-windowed mode, which means that all private, channel and system messages will be shown in same text window. It can also work in debug mode when all server messages will be shown to user as is, according to IRC protocol and more. MegaIRC supports various IRC server encodings and, for your anonymity, can connect to a server through Socks5 firewall. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is also supported.

Die Twitter-Betreiber haben bekannt gegeben, dass nun ein Java-Server als Frontendtechnik für den Mikroblogging-Dienst dient. Zuvor lief Twitter mit Hilfe des Ruby-Frameworks Rails. Die Veränderungen sollen bis zu einer dreimal besseren Performance geführt haben. Der Blender genannte Java-Server besteht aus der NIO-Client/Server-Bibliothek JBoss Netty.

Die bisherige Rails-Architektur sei performance- und erweiterungsseitig an ihre Grenzen gestoßen. Ein letztes Mal wären die Performanceprobleme im März während des Tsunamis in Japan zutage getreten, als die Suche mit #tsunami zum deutlichen Anstieg der Last geführt habe. Durch die Einführung von Blender hätten die Twitter-Betreiber die Latenzzeiten deutlich mindern können, schreiben sie in ihrem Twitter-Engineering-Blog.

Bereits im Oktober 2010 hatte Twitter seine Suchinfrastruktur von MySQL auf die in Java geschriebene Suchtechnik Apache Lucene umgestellt. Damals hieß es, die alte, MySQL nutzende Suche wäre den aktuellen Anforderungen nicht mehr gewachsen gewesen und dass die neue Suche mindestens das Zehnfache der damaligen Anforderungen leisten könne.     Implemented chat room spam control. If a user attempts to spam a chat room, the spam isn’t received by the people in attendance, and they will receive the message: “You have attempted to send too many messages within a short amount of time. Please wait before you send another message.” Spamming a chat room will result in a permanent (non-appealable) ban from the Xfire network.
    OpenCandy (a system used to give users third party programs during install) has been removed from the Xfire installer;
    The Xfire installer’s EULA has been updated to reflect the removal of OpenCandy (i.e. that section has been removed from the EULA);
    Fixed an issue where users were unable to register using the Xfire client. Users can now register from the Xfire client correctly;
    Xfire XO Toolbar is now available for Chrome in alpha-test form. There are many known bugs, but you’re free to give it a try! (Web Game Detection is not supported on multiple tabs, and sometimes doesn’t work at all)
