MKVcleaver extracts various data from MKV video files. It can be used in a batch mode (loading and extracting data from many files) as well as single file mode. It has a simple interface, but a lot of functionality.

The program is a graphical user interface for mkvtoolnix.

New features and enhancements:

all programs: added a new option `--abort-on-warnings` that will cause the program to abort after it has emitted the first warning, similar to how it aborts after the first error. Implements #2493.
mkvmerge, mkvextract: when closing files that were opened for writing, cached data will not be flushed to storage automatically anymore. This reverts the workaround implemented for #2469. A new option was added to both programs (`--flush-on-close`) that re-enables flushing for people who are affected by data loss such as described in #2469.
The reason is that automatic flushing causes long delays in processing queues when the output by mkvmerge/mkvextract isn't the final product but just an intermediate result to be processed further. Implements #2480.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: the dialog previewing different character sets for text subtitles will now keep the position of the displayed text when switching between character sets. Implements #2489.

Bug fixes:

mkvmerge: AVI reader: using DV type 1 AVIs will now result in an unsupported file type being reported (as the underlying AVI library doesn't support them) instead of crashing mkvmerge. Fixes #2491.
mkvmerge: HEVC: the height of interlaced streams will now be set correctly to the height of the full frame instead of the height of a single interlaced field. Fixes #2446.
mkvmerge: MP4 reader: edit lists consisting solely of elements that mkvmerge doesn't support (such as dwells) are simply ignored. Before no data was read for such tracks at all. Fixes #2487.
mkvmerge: text subtitles: entries with an explicit duration of 0ms will now be handled correctly: the 0ms duration will be stored in Matroska instead of the difference between the current and the following entry. Fixes #2490.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer, chapter editor: fixed drag & drop handling with Qt 5.12.0 and newer. Fixes #2472.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: the GUI did not clean up temporary files created when running `mkvmerge`. Fixes #2499.

The GUI emitted errors such as "the JSON output could not be parsed" in that case. Fixes #2507.
MKVToolNix GUI: the portable mode wasn't detected correctly when the current working directory the GUI was started from wasn't the directory the GUI's executable file was located it. Examples for when this is the case are Windows' "send to" or "open with" functions. Fixes #2501.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: using button to change the current destination directory to one of the recently used ones did not update the file name according to the "make file name unique" setting. Part of the fix of #2519.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: the function "set destination file name from selected file's name" will now only change the destination file's name but not its path. Part of the fix of #2519.

Build system changes:

libEBML v1.3.7 and libMatroska 1.5.0 are now required as they fix their handling of Unicode code points > U+FFFF (see #2516).

* MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: Windows: trying to open Blu-ray index or playlist files failed when the path to the files contained symbolic links (e.g. when mounting a drive in a sub-folder via Windows' disk management utility). Fixes #2522.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: if a destination file names ends with a number in parenthesis (e.g. a year such as "(2017)"), that number will not be stripped anymore during the process of ensuring the destination file name is unique. Only those suffixes added automatically in prior attempts to make the file name unique will be removed. Fixes #2521.
MKVToolNix GUI: multiplexer: Windows: the GUI will let the user change the drive letter part of the destination file name freely again and only verify its validity right before starting to mux/adding to the job queue. Before it tried to force that into something valid, often resulting in unintentional paths (such as "C:users…DCfiles…"). Fixes #2527.

Inviska MKV Extract is a cross-platform utility for extracting elements from MKV files. Requires MKVToolnix.

The data that Inviska MKV Extract allows you to extract includes video/audio, and subtitle tracks, attachments (fonts, images, etc.), chapters, cue sheets, tags, cues, and timestamps. After adding a file, the elements will be read and displayed allowing for efficient selection. There is also a batch extract feature that will enable you to extract data from groups of files, for example, you could extract the subtitle tracks and attachments from all added files.

Included option to add all files in a directory - An Add Directory option has been included in the File menu which adds all mkv and mka files in a specified directory. Code contributed by Quzar.
Windows version is now 64bit - Previously Windows builds were 32bit, allowing them to run on both 32bit and 64bit Windows. With most people now on 64bit Windows we've changed to 64bit only. The Linux and Mac builds were already 64bit only.
Linux release changes - After discovering lintian, rpmlint and namcap, I made various changes to resolve policy violations, specifically: added changelog and copyright files to all packages, specified correct Section in deb package, changed BuildArch to ExclusiveArch in rpm spec, added detailed description to deb and rpm packages, added execution code to .desktop Exec field, renamed .desktop file to com.inviska.InviskaMKVExtract.desktop, compiled with PIC and RELRO, stripped symbols from executable, stopped statically linking zlib, and fixed incorrect file permissions. There are still improvements to be made on the Linux front, and some distros are still reporting the licence as propitiatory. I'm thinking of dropping the .deb, .rpm and .pkg.tar.xz packages entirely and switching to FlatPaks and Snaps.
Application info defined on Mac - Info.plist is now defined manually as the version generated by Qt lacked certain information.
Application info defined on Windows - While looking into the above problem I noticed I hadn't defined some fields for Windows, such as name, version and copyright. This has been corrected, so Task Manager will now show the application name rather than the executable.
Switched to Qt 5.12.2 on Windows and Mac - This changes the minimum supported macOS version to 10.12.
Qt 5.6.3 and Qt 5.12.2 builds released for Linux - GTK theme emulation has still not been fixed in Qt 5.12.2, but versions built with Qt 5.6.3 are no longer rendering correctly on the latest Linux distributions (Ubuntu 18.10 and possibly others). As such, builds with both Qt 5.6.3 and Qt 5.12.2 have been released for Linux.
License changed to GPLv2+ - Changed all references to license from GPLv2 to GPLv2+, thus allowing the GPLv3 license to be used if that is preferred. The Arch package simply states GPL for licence, as this is used to denote GPLv2+ on Arch based distros.

Added natural number sorting - Filenames that don't use zero padding for numbers would previously appear out of order in the file tree (1, 10, 2, 20) but they will now be listed in the correct order (1, 2, 10, 20).
Added locale aware sorting - Non-English users may previously have found files to be listed in an unexpected order. Sorting is now locale aware so files should now be listed in an appropriate order for your language.

    Added language code to filename of extracted tracks - The three letter language code will now be inserted in the filename of extracted subtitle, audio and video tracks to make it easier to identify the track. If the language has not been specified UND will be inserted for undefined. This feature is enabled by default, but can be disabled in the Preferences.
    Added option to insert track name in filename of extracted tracks - The track name is entered by the encoder of the file and can contain literally anything. In some cases the encoder will enter the language of the track, in some cases they will enter other details about the track, and in some cases they will enter nothing at all. Due to the unpredictable nature of this feature it is disabled by default and must be enabled in the Preferences if you want to use it. Characters that aren't valid for use in filenames will be stripped out of the track name.
    Added shortcut to check all items of type - A shortcut key has been added to check all boxes of a particular type in the Batch Extract list. Ctrl+Shift+S will check all subtitle boxes, Ctrl+Shift+Z will check all audio boxes and Ctrl+Shift+V will check all video boxes. On Mac the shortcut is Cmd+Shift rather than Ctrl+Shift.
    State of Add Files and Add Directory dialogs now saved - The last open directory and other settings will now be restored.
    Updated Portuguese Brazilian translation - There were a few strings I hadn't marked for translation, but these have now been translated. Additional strings associated with new features have also been translated. Translations by Wagg13.
    Reworked translation strings - Some of the strings contained a lot of HTML, which made them hard for translators to read. These strings have been split up into smaller strings with most of the HTML removed, so are much easier to read and translate.
