Optische Datenträger (also CD,DVD,BD) behalten ihre Daten nur eine endlich lange Zeit (normalerweise viele Jahre). Danach beginnt typischerweise ein langsamer Datenverlust, indem von außen nach innen immer mehr Lesefehler auftreten.

Archivieren mit Schutz vor Datenverlust

dvdisaster archiviert Daten so auf CD/DVD/BD (unterstützte Formate), daß sie auch dann noch wiederherstellbar sind, wenn der Datenträger bereits einige Lesefehler enthält. Dadurch können Sie Ihre Daten noch vollständig auf einen neuen Datenträger retten.

Der Schutz vor Datenverlust geschieht durch das Anlegen von Fehlerkorrektur-Daten. Diese werden entweder dem Datenträger hinzugefügt oder in zusätzlichen Fehlerkorrektur-Dateien aufbewahrt. dvdisaster arbeitet auf der Abbild-Ebene und ist dadurch vom Dateisystem des Datenträgers unabhängig. Die maximale Kapazität der Fehlerkorrektur ist einstellbar.

Häufige Mißverständnisse über dvdisaster:

    dvdisaster kann defekte Datenträger nicht wieder lesbar machen. Ohne Fehlerkorrektur-Daten kann ein beschädigter Datenträger nicht wiederhergestellt werden.
    Solche Funktionen sind mit den Zielen und dem inneren Aufbau von dvdisaster nicht vereinbar.

  Dies sollte jetzt mit allen cygwin-Version von 1.5.x bis 1.7.x

* Gleichzeitiges Schreiben auf mehrere Brenner für die Projekte 'Audio-CD'
  und 'Disk-Image'.

  1. Das Projekt 'Audio-CD' auswählen und die gewünschten Audio-Tracks
     hinzufügen oder das Projekt 'Disk-Image' auswählen und das ISO-,
     CUE/BIN oder Audio-CUE-Sheet angeben.

  2. Wenn cdrtfe mindestens zwei Brenner findet, kann man bei der Laufwerks-
     auswahl den Punkt 'mehrere Brenner' als Ziel bestimmen.

  3. 'Start' klicken.

  4. Die zu benutzenden Brenner auswählen, dann 'Ok' klicken.

  5. 'Start' klicken. Die Registerkarten 'Laufwerk <x>' zeigen für jeden
     Brenner die Kommandozeilenausgabe an, die Registerkarte 'Vorbereitung'
     zeigt die Ausgabe, wenn komprinierte Audio-Dateien ins wav-Format
     konvertiert werden.

  Temporäre Dateien werden erst gelöscht, wenn dieses Fenster geschlossen
  wird.Der Schreibvorgang kann also mehrere Male ausgeführt werden, ohne die
  temporären Dateien erneut zu erzeugen.

  Zur Zeit ist beim Schreiben auf mehrere Brenner keine Verifikation der
  geschriebenen Disks mit dem Image möglich. Ein Vergleich kann aber manuell
  für ein einzelnes Laufwerk gestartet werden (Rechtsklick auf 'Verify'-Option).

  Es ist empfehlenswert zunächst Tests im Simulationsmodus oder mit dem
  Simulationstreiber durchzuführen bevor ein echter Schreibvorgang gestartet
  wird.

  Mit einem Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2330 (1,6 GHZ), 2 GiB RAM und einer 128
  GiB SSD war es möglich, ein DVD-ISO-Image auf drei Brenner (1x IDE und 2x
  USB 2.0) in der Geschwindigkeit 4x gleichzeitig zu schreiben.

Also für alle die auch nicht draufkommen, wie man eine Daten DVD erstellt: Bei der Leiste, die einem den verbleibenden Platz auf dem Medium anzeigt einen Rechtsklick drauf machen und DVD auswählen! Für diese Erkenntnis hab ich glaub ein Jahr gebraucht 
Ansonsten schöne Software, mir persönlich mit zu vielen Einstellungen - ich weiß nicht, ob die Standardeinstellung da das beste sind, deswegen erstell' ich Daten CDs/DVDs meist mit k3b. Images brennen ist hingegen - fast idiotensicher - möglich, da spricht nix dagegen
