Google hat den App-Launcher aus Chrome OS in seinen Browser Chrome übernommen. Damit steht eine Art Startmenü für Web-Apps bereit, die sich als eigenständige Applikationen aufrufen lassen.

Der aus Chrome OS stammende App-Launcher erlaubt es künftig, auch unter anderen Betriebssystemen Web-Apps wie bei Chrome OS als eigenständige Applikation zu starten, so dass sie außerhalb des Browserfensters laufen.

Chromes App-Launcher unter Windows

Im ersten Schritt hat Google den App-Launcher in die Windows-Version von Chrome integriert. Er kann hier in der aktuellen Entwicklerversion (Dev Channel) mit sogenannten Packaged Apps ausprobiert werden, beispielsweise dem IRC-Client CIRC oder dem Texteditor Textdrive.

Demnächst soll der App-Launcher aber auch für Linux und Mac OS X erscheinen, so dass Chrome-Apps plattformübergreifend über ein einheitliches Startmenü aufgerufen werden können. Noch ist es allerdings nicht möglich, im Chrome Web Store nach Packaged Apps zu suchen. Es ist aber durchaus möglich, solche Apps in den Chrome Web Store hochzuladen und über einen Direktlink zu verteilen.
