Google hat seinen Browser Chrome in der Version 13 veröffentlicht. Chrome 13 unterstützt die Funktion Instant Pages, wobei Googles Suche einige der Ergebnisse schon im Hintergrund lädt, um sie schneller anzuzeigen.

Mit Chrome 13 geht Googles Funktion Instant Pages in den Regelbetrieb, denn sie ist in der neuen Version von Googles Browser standardmäßig aktiviert. Dabei setzt Google auf Prefetching und das von Google selbst beim W3C eingereichte Page Visibility API.

Um Nutzer seiner Suchmaschine schneller zu den gesuchten Seiten zu bringen, lädt Chrome eine bereits im Hintergrund, so dass die entsprechende Seite beim Anklicken nur noch angezeigt werden muss. Google wählt jeweils die Seite aus, auf die der Nutzer aus Sicht der Suchmaschine am wahrscheinlichsten klicken wird.

Das von Chrome dabei unterstützte Page Visibility API erlaubt es Websitebetreibern, festzustellen, ob eine Seite im Hintergrund geladen wurde, um darauf zu reagieren.

Druckvorschau

Neu ist zudem eine Druckvorschau: Dabei nutzt Google den in Chrome integrierten PDF-Betrachter und ändert die Vorschau, sollten die Druckeinstellungen angepasst werden. Zudem kann der Browser nun jede Webseite als PDF-Datei abspeichern. Vorerst aber steht die Druckvorschau nur in den Chrome-Versionen für Windows und Linux zur Verfügung, Mac-Nutzer müssen sich noch ein klein wenig gedulden, so Google.

Verbesserte Omnibox

Überarbeitet hat Google auch Chromes Omnibox, in die URLs und Suchanfragen eingegeben werden. So werden bei der Eingabe nun auch Vorschläge unterbreitet, die nur zum Teil auf URLs und Seitentitel im Browserverlauf passen. Es reicht also, ein paar Zeichen einzugeben, die in einer URL oder einem Seitentitel vorkommen.
