Praktisches Umbenennungstool für Windows. Joe numeriert mehrere Dateien automatisch oder setzt Namen aus Feldern zusammen. Erlaubt das Umbenennen per Maske oder Zähler. Auch das Ersetzen von vorhandenen Namensbestandteilen ist möglich. Die Dateien werden zur Bearbeitung per Drag & Drop in die Anwendung gezogen. Dort können die Dateien noch beliebig sortiert werden. Vorlagen für Standardnamen, die sich auch Elementen wie Erstellungsdatum, Tag oder Uhrzeit beziehen sind vorhanden und lassen sich beliebig mit eigenen Bezeichnungen oder einem Zähler kombinieren. Eine Vorschau zeigt vor der Stapelumbenennung die neuen Dateinamen in einer Liste an.

Vor ein paar Tagen machte die Nachricht die Runde, dass Windows 8 keine Widgets mehr unterstützen würde, beziehungsweise, dass diese aus dem neuen System verschwinden. Für mich ein Grund, auf XWidget 1.6 hinzuweisen, das vor ein paar Tagen in der neuen Version 1.6 erschienen ist. XWidget ist eine Widget-Applikation, die ein wenig an Apples Widgets und das dazugehörige Dashboard erinnert. Auf der Webseite gibt es Hunderte mehr oder minder nützliche Widgets, die ihr einfach installieren könnt.

Wer sich selbst berufen fühlt, der findet einen Editor vor, um eigene Widgets zu erstellen. Die Widgets können frei platziert werden, man findet nicht nur die üblichen Systemtools wie Anzeige des freien Arbeitsspeichers und Co, sondern auch Bildbetrachter, Docks, Feedreader, Programmstarter und Co. Ich selber stand vor einigen Jahren auch auf diesen Widget-Kram, benutze heutzutage allerdings nichts mehr davon – von meinem Desktop sehe ich ja eh nicht viel, von daher muss dieser auch nicht vollgemüllt sein. Aber dies ist natürlich nur meine Ansichtssache, es gibt sicherlich viele Menschen, denen solche Widgets bei der täglichen PC-Arbeit helfen.

ArsClip remembers the most recent clipboard entries and allows you to quickly paste any of the entries into a program by pressing a hotkey (by default ctrl+shift+z). Send To Toys is an enhancement of the Send To system menu. "Add to Send To menu" and "Remove from Send To menu" allow you to personalize the Send To system menu for drives, folders, and programs. Send To "Clipboard (as name)" copies the name of the file or files to the clipboard. Send To "Command Prompt" opens a DOS console window, setting the current directory to the selected folder. Send To "Favorites" adds a shortcut to your Favorites list. Send To "Folder..." sends a file or files to another folder, you will be shown a dialog box that lets you choose where the files should be copied. Send To "Run..." sends a file or files to the Run command dialog.
